Darrell Thompson: Darrell Thompson is the all-time leading rusher for Minnesota with 4,654 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. He is considered one of the greatest running backs in Minnesota Gophers history. Thompson played for the Gophers from 1986-1989 and later played professionally for the Green Bay Packers.
Laurence Maroney: Laurence Maroney is the second all-time leading rusher for Minnesota with 3,933 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. He played for the Gophers from 2003-2005 and later played for the New England Patriots, where he was a part of their 2007 Super Bowl team.
Marion Barber III: Marion Barber III is the third all-time leading rusher for Minnesota with 3,276 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns. He played for the Gophers from 2001-2004 and later played for the Dallas Cowboys, where he was a two-time Pro Bowler.
Other notable Gopher running backs include Thomas Hammock and David Cobb. Hammock rushed for 2,979 yards and 29 touchdowns from 1998-2002, while Cobb rushed for 2,893 yards and 20 touchdowns from 2011-2014.
